There are different types of service providers that offer specific, personalized support to meet the needs of each person. Some providers are agencies and others are people who work independently.
- Day Services – these providers offer vocational and non-vocational services to assist people in different areas of their lives.
- Vocational services are developed to teach important work skills that are needed in a variety of employment opportunities, including social interaction, problem-solving, good attendance habits, and safety awareness.
- Adult Day support services assist individuals in connecting with others in their community, including how to meet new people, discovering local activities, and becoming independent in transportation while exploring job and recreational opportunities
You can learn more about Adult Day services here: dodd.ohio.gov
- Community/Residential Services – these services are customized to help each person become more independent at home and in the community. Supports may focus on daily tasks like cooking, participating in community activities, decision-making, personal finances, health and safety, and self-advocacy.
- Supportive Technology – The use of technology in today’s world happens all around us every day! Ohio has specialized technology and technology-based services available:
- Assistive Technology provides tools and equipment that are used by an individual to improve ability and independence, like specialized assistive software/apps, communication aids, mobility and accessibility devices, and learning and cognitive support tools.
- Remote Support Services provide live “two-way” communication between the remote caregiver and the person receiving the assistance, enabling greater independence and growth in abilities.
